Welcome
This website is dedicated to assisting and supporting neuro-typical partners of people with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) or Asperger Traits.
We understand how hard it is when you are first looking for support. When your partner finds out that he/she has Asperger's (AS), or you suspect they have AS, it can be a very confusing stressful time for you. Usually you are not aware that there are other people that are in a similar situation to yourself and how to contact them, what services and supports are available to you or where to even start looking.
The aim of this website is to provide a source of information to educate neurotypical (NT) partners to better understanding their Asperger's Partners and ourselves.
By registering on this website you will have access to extra menu items:
- Conferences and Seminars - notices of various conferences being held in Australia.
- Articles - information provided by professionals, newspapers and from personal experience.
- Web Resources - links to Book & Movie Reviews, Youtube articles and various professional support services.
- Events Calendar – view group meeting dates, special events and conferences.
- Support Services – a list of professional support services.
- Contact List for Parnters' Support Groups - listings of support groups in your area.
This website is open to (NT) or non Asperger adult partners of people with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) or Asperger Traits. Other sites and organisations provide supports for people with AS, therefore our aim is to focus on supports and education for their NT partners.
Support groups are a good way to find understanding and insight into our relationships. Many members have said that they have become isolated as the AS partner may not have a want or need to socialise. Friends and family may not have an understanding of Asperger's and therefore, when things get difficult are unable to offer the support you need. In joining a support group you will find a connection with others, there is no need to explain, there is an instant understanding of your situation. Within the group you will find that some of the members have partners similar to your own and that you are able to share your experiences and swap strategies and solutions. Most people find a great sense of relief when they are able to tell someone of how they are feeling and what they are going through... And just by listening to others share their story at our meetings we often can gain insight into our own situation. So come and join us for a cuppa in a relaxed, friendly, positive and supportive environment.
Currently we have listing for support groups in many of the major cities in Australia. We publish their contact details, meeting dates and local information. To access these details you will need to register on this site.
We realise that for people in rural areas the feeling of being isolated and the lack of supports would be even greater. We hope that this website will help to give you a connection with others that feel the same and give you access to resources to help you on your journey. If you are interest in starting a group in your area or hosting a 'coffee morning get-to-gether' please let us know so that we can assist. We are able to monitor membership in your area, post notices of local professional supports and send update emails. Maybe you have suggestions of how best we can support you? We look forward to hearing from you.
So what are you waiting for, join up and become a member! Create your account from the login box at the top right hand corner of this home page.
If you would like more information regarding this support group please direct your inquiry through our E-Mail address on our 'Contact Us' page.
